This piece of art embodies the aura of 2018 ArrowHead by Brian Crew. ArrowHead is an intentional old school Right Bank Bordeaux style wine. In finding a common ground with the theme of stones that Stone & Key Cellars is known for and archery which is a meditative pastime of the winemaker. It is also fitting that the original arrowheads were made of stone, most famously obsidian. Obsidian is Winemaker Matt Check’s signature double gold winning wine and this wine includes percentages of that blend in it. This painting’s unique pattern almost shapes into an arrowhead but regardless of interpretation, its smooth and aggressive pattern translates well to the profile of the wine. The grapes were sourced from Yakima Valley, Washington and Matt & Brian really dove into this vintage to create the ideal varietals. When it came to spending hours in the lab to blend them together, Brian went through trial after trial trying to make sure it was balanced and showing character from each portion of the blend. The wine is scarlet in color with violet hues with dark cherry, raspberry, cranberry sauce, green pepper skin, and cedar on the nose. On the palate, dark cherry, white pepper, fresh fig, raspberry, and a hint of clean leather. Nock your arrow, pull back and aim carefully- this is all about focus, breathing, and of course fun.
